It was no more recent than my childhood that I experienced such a white winter. The best welcome to a new home in nature.
As I was making heart marks in the snow for the third week in a row, wandering around grow beds under a white duvet, I realized that for the first time in my life I had been surrounded by snow for more than a week on vacation – on a trip from Prague where I had lived for 35 years.
I saw how this winter is celebrated not only by snow lovers, but mainly by all meadows, fields, forests and everyone who cares about the landscape. Snowflakes appeared in Vrabsko at the beginning of January. We built self-sufficient igloos, many snowmen, and made up for the last few years without snow-related fun. As soon as run-out paths made by the shrews, which had been running there for a month in the safety of snow tunnels, appeared around the meadow, more & more drifts fell to the ground.
Trips on the train brought us through new landscapes, running in the snow was a new sport, and when it all was suddenly lit up by the sun, we went for a lunch outside, finding ourselves in a raw cafe in the Alps.
Outside I only went for walks, otherwise we all were mainly nesting. We were rearranging & settling the farmhouse, where we moved this summer, and now we already have here a nice living room, new kitchen, a food workshop and a textile workshop.
Every day I have to take care of the fire so that neither the walls, water or we freeze. No gas factories in the heaters, no water companies in the bath tubs. A romance, or an adventure? Depends on the angle that you view each moment from.
However, what was warming me the most this winter was the silence, the darkness, the peace, in which I felt Life so clearly. I was warmed by lovely friendships, sharing stories, songs & laughter. I was warmed by the beauty that we had been able to create here in such a short time. I was warmed by the confidence that we have many years ahead of us, we have support from many, and the zeal of our own to create a beautiful place on a beautiful Earth.
I hope this winter inspired you for the upcoming spring and summer!
